After the judges have tallied up all of the scores, it’s time to gather your friends and accept some awards. This is what we’ve all been waiting for. Who’s going to win each category, best of show, and club awards? Who’s going to be the best up-and-coming advertising student? Who will go home with all the glory (the kind that comes with a trophy)?
Join us at the awards show. Celebrate all the hard work you’ve done. Toss some drinks back with friends and/or the competition. Heck, bring your clients along to display your appreciation.
The National American Advertising Awards Program is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative creative competition, recognizing creative excellence in the art of advertising.
Sponsored by the AAF, the American Advertising Awards competition represents the broadest creative spirit of advertising by recognizing all forms of advertising; in all varieties of media; created by all sizes and types of entrants; and from all over the country. More than 40,000 total entries are entered and judged annually.
Visit the AAF website to learn more about the national competition.
The American Advertising Awards student competition is held concurrently with the professional competition and is the largest student advertising competition of its kind. Although there are fewer categories, the student competition mirrors the three-tier structure of the professional competition.
Registration for the 2025 American Advertising Awards will open in October 2024. Stay tuned!
The Emerging Advertising Leader of the Year award is presented to young professional men and women who are making outstanding contributions to marketing, advertising, design, and/or communication.
As our Marketing Strategy Director, Emily uses her personable, people-driven approach to understand our clients’ needs and create strategies that produce results. A true forward thinker, her creative mind loves analyzing how the digital world evolves and interacts with our everyday lives.
With her go-getter attitude, Emily will transform existing social and digital ads and research different approaches to make a greater impact. She’s passionate about tailoring strategic ads to reach specific target audiences and thrives when she’s surrounded by like-minded team members who share her creative drive.
Emily graduated from the University of Iowa (go Hawks!) and holds a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. When Emily isn’t executing campaigns for our clients, she enjoys spending time with her husband, her daughter, and their black lab, Melrose.
You might find her enjoying red wine and crime podcasts, trying out recipes on her family and friends, or exploring restaurants and breweries around Des Moines.
Volunteer of the Year is presented to an outstanding volunteer who has made significant contributions in furthering the growth and mission of the club.
Thomas (Tom) Woody has been a longtime supporter and contributor to the American Advertising Federation. Starting on the board in 2016 as Government Relations Director, Tom quickly ascended into leadership on the board after he was encouraged to run for President of the AAF. Following his term as president, Woody remained on the board while accepting a leadership position at the AAF District 9 board. On the District 9 board Tom served as Lt. Governor, National Student Advertising Competition Chair (twice), Governor and chairman. In continuing to help further the AAF’s mission Tom joined the AAF’s Central Region which oversees and provides support to 5 districts and over 60 AAF and Ad 2 Clubs. Locally, Woody remains involved in his role in government relations for the AAF of Des Moines Club where he hosts an annual Ad Day at the Capitol event for the club each spring. Tom will represent the club and state at the American Advertising Federation’s national Ad Day on the Hill later this March. Last year, Woody worked to keep industry leaders and national organizations to thwart a digital advertising tax that was being discussed in the Iowa legislature. In addition to his dedication and heavy involvement in the AAF Woody also founded and has headed up the planning efforts for the Metro Marketing Mixer, Central Iowa’s premier networking event for industry professionals and hosted by the AAF and 4 other top industry organizations. As an active member of AAF Tom works to continually grow the club through quality programming and valuable membership opportunities.
